Frequently asked questions

Below you will find some questions I’m often asked.

Have a read, but if there is anything you need answering that isn’t here, please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Are you based in Curacao?, do you travel elsewhere?

Yes, I am based in the beautiful city of Willemstad, but I can travel anywhere to photograph your event.  I ask for a flat fee to cover gas/airfare and accommodations.

How would you describe your style?

I describe myself with a mix between fashion, creative, authentic and documentary photojournalist.

I aim to observe your event day as it unfolds, naturally and unobtrusively. I work very close to the action and try to blend in with the guests as much as possible. This involves me capturing the real moments and memories from their event day – rather than fabricated and set-up photos that really don’t tell a story at all, but always making sure the surroundings are the best for the shots.

Most events have a need for a small selection of group shots, and I can set aside some time for this.

Do you photograph in color or black & white and do you edit all the images?

I shoot all images in color with high-end digital equipment, after the event I make a selection process where I seek for the best shots and after that I make the editing process with all the selected images. The editing involves color correcting, cropping and some images are converted to black & white.

Do you take group shots?

Yes, of course.

Although I am a documentary photographer, I understand that most events require a certain amount of traditional group photos.

Guests usually do not want to be standing around waiting for a bossy photographer to direct them so I will organize this section of your day very quickly, then move on.

Occasionally, there is a requirement for many more “formal photographs” with a large amount of guests.  In these situations, in order to allow me to continue to create the story telling type images that you see on this website, I can arrange for a second or third shooter to be on hand specifically to cater for the formal shots.

How do we book?

Just call or email me at any time and I will check availability. We can also schedule a personal meeting to discuss all your event details.

I require a completed and signed contract and a non-refundable booking fee of 30% of the total package to secure my services for your event date. The retainer fee can be paid by bank transfer. I cannot hold dates without the contract and fee. The remaining of the balance is due 1 week before the event date.

What happens after the event?

Once your event is over, the sad fact is the only thing you will have to remind you of your wonderful day is the memories, stories and photographs.

Because of the importance to me of helping you cherish those memories, it may take between 5 and 10 business days for me to edit your event photographs.

The images will be sent via email with a personal Dropbox link for download. The images will be received both in High and Low resolution. The Dropbox link will be available for 30 days.

Do you use Photoshop?

In certain photos I do, If I have to remove some undesired elements from a few pictures, make skin corrections, or any other advanced editing. However, I like to keep my photos as natural as possible.

If I want you to make advanced editing (Photoshop) with all my photos is that possible?

Yes, but an additional fee will be added to your package depending on the amount of pictures and the type of editing required.

What preparations do you make before our wedding?

About 15 days before the event I will require an event itinerary so I will know the details such as time, expected images, among others.

On a more functional note, I always make sure my car is fully serviced, I leave with plenty of time to spare to avoid any traffic delays. I shoot with two high-end professional cameras on the day, and backup equipment is always on hand.

How many wedding photos will I receive?

I do not provide a guaranteed total number of images. This number is subject to change based on the length of the wedding day and the desired “highlights” of the day per our couples’ instruction. I do guarantee quality images, however, and ask my clients to consider if they would prefer 1000 photos they didn’t really like that much or 500 photos they absolutely loved.

Can a photographer use my photos?

In my case I work with an open contract where both photographer and client are free to use, print, publish and reproduce without limitations any of the images taken at the wedding day. I don’t work with private agreements.

What should we look for in a wedding photographer?

You have to seek for someone that makes you feel comfortable, someone that takes care of you and make you laugh at the moments of stress, someone that can guide you to take great photos, someone that treats you and your beloved ones with respect and make you feel like part of your family.

Would you be comfortable shooting our non-traditional/adventurous/religious/non-religious/destination/secret/LGBT Wedding?

Absolutely. I believe in your love and however you choose to celebrate it. If you’ll have me, I will be there.

We don’t feel comfortable in front of the camera. How can you help?

I totally know how you feel. When it comes to your portraits, I will just be going to keep things fun and romantic! There’s no need for you to “model,” instead I’ll help guide you through things to do and ways to keep the focus on each other, not on the camera. This is one reason I highly recommend an engagement session–it’s the perfect way for us to get to know each other and for you to get a little practice in.

Do you offer albums? What about prints?

No, but I can guide you with local or international providers to take care of the printing process.

How far in advance should we reach out?

Most couples reserve their date between 8-18 months in advance. I highly recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later, especially for popular dates with sequences like 20.01.2020 / 02.02.2020 or in high wedding season. Once you have your date and venue set feel free to drop me a line. Sometimes people asks me first for some possible dates and if I am free they set their final date based on my availability.

Do you offer engagement/pre wedding shoots?

Yes, I do. A pre-wedding or engagement shoot is a great way to get used to being in front of the camera, if you’re a little camera shy. It’s a chance to get some lovely, relaxed photos of the two of you, and if you have children you can include them in the shoot and make it a real family experience. There’s no pressure with this shoot, it’s a very relaxed and fun experience. We can do the photos at your favorite place or choose to do something that’s special to the two of you. If you want to use the images for a save the date card, wedding invitation or a guest book, you can.

Do you offer Trash The Dress/post wedding photos?

Yes, this is one of my favorite photoshoots, because there is no rush and I can be a lot more creative than in the wedding date. If you are interested in getting unique photos under the water, with fire, inside of a cave, on the beach, or any other amazing location then this is something you can’t miss. I offer diverse types of packages and believe me this is a great experience you will never forget.
